Ark. County Judge Performing Weddings
Jason St. Amand READ TIME: 1 MIN.
Pulaski County Circuit Judge Wendell Griffen is among those officiating same-sex weddings that are happening Monday in the Pulaski County courthouse.
The courthouse is flooded with couples Monday after Circuit Judge Chris Piazza ruled that the state's constitutional ban on gay marriage was unconstitutional. Many couples are immediately marrying after receiving their licenses.
Griffen, who is also a minister, had performed three wedding ceremonies by 9 a.m. Monday. He says he's performing the ceremonies because "it's the right thing to do."
Piazza walked past Griffen in the courthouse rotunda Monday and shook Griffen's hand. Piazza declined a request for an interview, saying he's already spoken his opinion on the issue.
