Internet Pastor Suggests New Meaning to Shotgun Weddings
EDGE READ TIME: 2 MIN.
When the hymn "Onward Christian Soldiers" was penned in the 19th century, there is little doubt that term "soldiers" was meant figuratively. Yet, for one anti-gay evangelist vehemently opposed to same-sex marriage, his version of Christian soldiers should all be armed with semiautomatic weapons. Gay Star News reports.
Joshua Feuerstein, a self-proclaimed "former television and radio evangelist" of indeterminate denomination, who shot to social media fame by posting a series of Islamaphobic, science denying and anti-gay videos, is calling on his 1.6 million Facebook followers and 8,690 YouTube subscribers, to exercise their First Amendment right to refuse to recognize same-sex marriage by using their Second Amendment right to own guns.
In a two and a half minute YouTube clip, Feuerstein ranted about the United States Supreme Court decision legalizing gay marriage "opened up the doors for the left and the liberals to come after Christianity."
"It's time that we finally take a stand and say no more," said Feuerstein. "We're not backing up any further. We're not going to allow a tyrannical government to come in and strip away our rights as Christians and try to demonize us so that they can make the Bible bigoted."
"Why are we backing down to the government and not drawing a line in the sand?," Feuerstein said. "This is one pastor who will not bow."
To illustrate his point, the "pastor" pulled out a semi-automatic rifle and said. "Why? Because my first amendment right is guaranteed by my Second Amendment right. Think about that ladies and gentlemen."
Feuerstein is no stranger to garnering attention by creating stunts and making outrageous anti-gay claims.
According to Christian Post, in April, Feuerstein called Cut the Cake bakery in Florida, and asked owner if she would make a cake and include the words "We do not support gay marriage."
