Pop singer Miley Cyrus made headlines earlier this month after releasing a free single about lesbian sex, where she sang, "I want you to bang my box." But the pansexual singer also cares about lesbian love.

Earlier this week, Towleroad reported that Cyrus released "Hands of Love," a song for the Ellen Page/ Julianne Moore release of "Freeheld." The movie looks at the true story of Laurel Hester, an Ocean County, NJ cop who developed terminal cancer that spread from her lungs to her brain. Hester fought the Freeholders to leave her pension benefits to her partner, played in the movie by Page.

In February 2006, Hester lost her battle with cancer. The Ocean County Freeholders eventually decided to extend benefits to same-sex partners after Hester's cause was taken up by bloggers and others who hoped a grassroots movement might force the Freeholders to change their position.

The story of this struggle became "Freeheld," the new movie opening in theaters this weekend. Cyrus released a pop ballad anthem co-written by Linda Perry and recorded for the film, called "Hands of Love," singing,"In the hands of love, we carry on/Stronger than we started."
