Pope-a Don't Preach: Madonna Wants Tea With Pontiff

READ TIME: 1 MIN.

If Kim Davis taught us anything it's that getting five minutes with the Pope isn't as hard as it used to be.

On the heels of that now infamous meeting, Madonna, the platinum-selling Queen of Pop and author of the Sex book, is saying that she would like to sit down and have tea with Pope Francis.

"I'll state the obvious and say that he seems like he's a much more open-minded individual, who seems to be moving outside of the dogma of the Catholic Church that has been set in stone since the days of Constantine. So I think it's good," the Material Girl said of Pope Francis to Rolling Stone.

"And I also believe that he's the kind of Pope you could sit down and have a cup of tea with, and/or that you could make a joke about something and he would laugh about it," she said of the liberal-leaning pontiff.

"I was raised a Catholic, and no matter what spiritual path I might go down, I always feel some kind of inexplicable connection with Catholicism," Madonna said. "It kind of shows up in all of my work, as you may have noticed."

Madonna's religious imagery has often gotten her into hot water with hard-line Catholics. In 2006, a Vatican Cardinal called for her excommunication after she appeared on stage in a mock crucifixion during her "Confessions" tour.
