Madonna's 'Rebel Heart Tour'

San Diego's Valley View Casino Center was the final stop of "Madonna's Rebel Heart Tour" on October 29 before she resumes touring internationally in January of 2016.

A chill set of EDM and ambient vibes provided by Michael Diamond opened the concert. As Diamond left the stage, similar music continued to play through the arena. All of a sudden, Michael Jackson's voice and musical energy filled the air elevated to a higher volume with "You Wanna Be Startin' Somethin'." It was a justified acknowledgment before Madonna's concert began. A bow to "The King of Pop" from the Queen Madonna, herself.

Immediately after this, Madonna's dancers took to the stage dressed in battle gear for the opening number "Iconic." Marching to the beat and tapping their poles in a majestic tempo, Madonna made her grand entrance lowered from above, caged but released. Thus began the spectacle of songs which never missed a beat in a two hour and fifteen-minute performance. Madonna's "Rebel Heart Tour" was a flawlessly executed and a sure-fire fun ride, on all accounts. The great showman, P.T. Barnum would have been proud.

It's been noted that Madonna didn't do enough songs from her catalog of hits. Madonna did. She'd have to stage a weekend retreat to cover them all, anyway. In addition, she performed eight songs from this year's release, "Rebel Heart." Here's a breakdown of some of the most incredible moments from the still reigning "Queen of Pop" or as she tags herself these days, "Bitch, I'm Madonna."

Tuxes and ties and dancing dolls brought in the frivolity and funhouse '20s frolic for an innovative and stylish duel rendition of "Music" and "Material Girl." Set on a mansion's balcony, Madonna, with a charming dialect similarly to "Breathless Mahoney," swatted the men down a ramp, one-by-one for "Material Girl" and then took the slide down to join them.

It was then that she was covered in a wedding veil and proceeded down the runway in a mock wedding ceremony. She even managed to toss her bouquet to a lucky admirer in the arena. Whenever she performed a golden oldie from her past, Madonna managed to change up the orchestrations and style just enough but managed to stay "true blue" to the original.

The international flavor and global effect of her career and persona came to light and costumed for a very early hit called "Dress You Up." Dancers were dressed in many colors of native clothing from various countries such as Peru, Spain and Latin America. Madonna led the way in "gaucho" style, as she played her guitar in a simpler setting, center stage and captivated, as the troop brought in all the moves from bolero to tango.

Following this, she set up a stool, had a shot with her cast and performed "Rebel Heart." That is, after sharing her unique sense of humor by giving one of her male dancers a spanking of thirty licks and then joking "After a spanking that long, something's bound to get hard!"

What set this rendition of "Rebel Heart" apart was the opportunity to see a glorious display on the huge front of stage screen of all the fan art created in tribute to Madonna over the years. It was during this very special moment that the realization of her status and longevity as a musical artist of the highest caliber is rightfully deserved.

The sadder and emotionally intense side of Madonna's ballads "Heartbreak City" and "Love Don't Live Here Anymore" were structured around a winding and tall, metal staircase at the end of the stage in a lit, heart-shaped area. Here, Madonna opened her heart to both ballads while taunting one of her dancers into a push and pull choreography that ended with her pushing him off the top of the stairway to his theatrical death. The original anguish and remorse and Madonna's still vibrant vocal qualities of "Love Don't" had the arena's crowd mesmerized. Madonna even acknowledged musical requests from the San Diego audience and as fate would have it she treated us to a brilliant rendition of "Frozen."

Many, many special musical memories old and new were gathered up in starlight that night from Madonna. A few personal favorites for this die-hard fan: one from "Erotica" and one from her self-titled debut album, was Madonna singing "Deeper and Deeper" while fiercely strutting on stage and "Burning Up," performed seated with guitar and strummed to a fiery heat. Both songs had me up and swaying to the beats.

Oh, and speaking of standing, as Madonna got harder into the groove later in the concert, she heckled the crowd with a command to, "Get out of those comfortable seats and dance with me!" When the Queen of Pop gives you an order you can do nothing but obey. "Give me an inkling of your brilliance as a power surge and ray of light" hit San Diego that night.

Madonna's "Rebel Heart Tour" played on Oct. 29 at Valley View Casino Center in San Diego, 3500 Sports Arena Blvd., San Diego, CA 92110. For information or tickets to upcoming tour dates, visit http://www.madonna.com/tour
