BMCC Tribeca PAC Presents A Night of Female Comics
READ TIME: 4 MIN.
On Friday, March 10, The BMCC Tribeca Performing Arts Center will host its annual evening of laughter, with acclaimed headline local comedianLeighann Lordand an additional all-female lineup of comediansLiz Miele, Carole Montgomery, and Lori Sommer.
Leighann Lordis frequently heard on XM-Sirius Satellite Radio and appeared on many stand-up comedy shows includingGirls Night Out, The Original Def Comedy All Star Jam,andComics Unleashed with Byron Allen,to name a few. As a comedic commentator, Lord has pulled pundit duty on VH1, Fox News, and MSNBC giving her informed and funny take on politics, world news and current events. Lord has performed several times at TPAC in previous stand-up events, as well as the most recent Writers-in-Performance presentation.
Liz Miele, originally from New Jersey, started doing stand-up at 16 in New York City. At 18 she was profiled inThe New Yorker, at 22 she appeared on Comedy Central's "Live at Gotham." She recently appeared on AXS TV's "Gotham Comedy Live" and Hulu's "Coming To The Stage" and was profiled in the March 2015 issue ofRunner's World. Miele regularly tours with the "Nobodies of Comedy" and Armed Forces Entertainment and just finished performing on a book tour for Chris McDougall, author of "Born to Run."
Her joke "Feminist Sex Positions" went viral both on YouTube andUpworthy.com. She just completed writing and producing season one of her animated web series "Damaged," voiced by great comics including, Maz Jobrani, Hari Kondabolu, Ted Alexandro, Dean Edwards, DC Benny, Joe Machi and so many more. She also co-produced and co-starred in 40 episodes of a web series called "Apt C3" with fellow comic, Carmen Lynch and fashion photographer, Chris Vongsawat. Miele recently released her debut comedy album, "Emotionally Exhausting" on iTunes and Amazon.
With over two dozen television credits to her name,Carole Montgomeryis a respected veteran of the standup comedy scene nationwide. In addition to her numerous TV appearances, Montgomery has headlined clubs & colleges across the USA and starred in two different Las Vegas production shows. In her ten years as a Las Vegas star, it is estimated that she has been seen by over five million audience members.
Besides being a comedian and writer, Montgomery is a wife and mother. She's been married for 30 years and has a 23-year-old son, Layne. She was Vice-President of her son's school PTA and helped coach his Little League team for seven years. She is now dealing with an adult son leaving home, her Peter Pan husband and living with her mother-in-law. The jokes write themselves. Though her onstage persona and offstage home life would seem to be on opposite sides of the spectrum, she juggles both with ease.
Lori Sommerhas been entertaining audiences for years. Before comedy, she traveled the world as a dancer for artists such as Mariah Carey, Jay Z and Eve -- to name a few. For the past ten years, Lori has taken the New York comedy scene by storm. She has been featured in all of the top NYC clubs, including Stand Up NY, The Broadway Comedy Club, Laugh Lounge, The Duplex and Gotham Comedy Club.
Her passion for the artistry of comedy has gone beyond the stage. She is a teacher who finds much joy in helping fellow comedians. Sommer is also a founding member of The Hyperion Theatre Project, as well as its Company Manager. She is a founding member of The Red Tie Mafia Improv Troupe, in residency at the world-renown Gotham Comedy Club and The Living Theatre, NYC. Her life experiences, observations, and quick wit will sometimes shock you, but always make you smile.
