READ TIME: 4 MIN.
Equality Vines, the world's first cause wine portfolio dedicated to equality for all, today announced the release of two wines under the 19th Amendment label, a 2016 Russian River Valley Sauvignon Blanc and 2012 Russian River Valley Pinot Noir.
"According to the 19th Amendment, the right of citizens of the United States to vote shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any state on account of sex," said Jim Obergefell, Co-Founder. "The Equality Vines team celebrates this simple yet powerful statement giving women an equal voice in our government, leading to efforts for gender equality in pay, opportunity, healthcare, and more. We are proud to include women winemakers and support organizations fighting for gender equality as our portfolio grows."
The newest labels in the Equality Vines portfolio honor equality for women and were handcrafted by artisan winemakers Alison Green-Doran of Crane Family Wines and Bryan Vais Bailiwick Wines. The Equality Vines team has chosen The League of Women Voters as its first partner organization under the 'Suffrage Series' and will donate $2 of every bottle sold to the organization.
"It is a great honor to be working with the team from Equality Vines and to know that each and every sip of this Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Noir will support voting rights for all," said Chris Carson, president of the League of Women Voters. "The League was founded in 1920 at a time when women did not experience the full rights as citizens. Today we are still fighting to expand access at the ballot box for all eligible voters."
Both wines are available online at EqualityVines.com, in the new tasting room that is opening soon and located at 16215 Main St. in Guerneville, and selected retailers nationwide.
Tasting Notes:
Equality Vines is the world's first cause wine portfolio dedicated to equality for all people. The portfolio is inspired by Dr. Marilyn Shultz, the aunt of Equality Vines co-founder Matt Grove, who in 1971 led the class action discrimination suit against NBC and its affiliates that ultimately reshaped the company.
The first Dr. Marilyn Shultz Tribute Wine, Love Wins Cuvee, honors Jim Obergefell and the late John Arthur, whose landmark Supreme Court case declared that all states must allow and recognize same-sex marriage. A Pinot Noir named The Decision has also been released and supports LGBTQ causes.
In 2017 the company will release wines focused on Women's Equality and also open a tasting room in the town of Guerneville, CA.
