How EVO3 CBD Oils Evolved Into an Industry Game-Changer

Matthew Wexler READ TIME: 4 MIN.

The diagnosis shook him to the core, but giving up was never an option. Diagnosed with sarcoma in his neck and chest in 2012, John Irwin knew that if he were to have a fighting chance, he'd need to make significant changes to his lifestyle, including self-care and diet.

Irwin was given a 30-day life expectancy, and endured debilitating treatment that included surgery, chemotherapy and radiation. In addition to Western medicine, the Houston restaurateur turned to extra-virgin organic olive oil, proven to reduce cancer cell viability.

Irwin befriended third-generation olive oil-maker Stratis Camatsos, founder of EVO3. Irwin helped facilitate a partnership between the brand and the American Association for Cancer Research (AACR) – one of the few food products backed by the AACR in the last century. Little did Irwin know what direction EVO3 would take him next.

Irwin thought his cancer days were soon to be over, but in 2015 doctors found unrelated tumors in his lungs and abdomen: stage 4 metastatic melanoma, for which he underwent two years of immunotherapy. Irwin became interested in CBD to offset side effects and knew that once cannabis became legal nationwide, a new business venture could potentially help a wide range of patients.

That day came in late 2018 with the passing of the Farm Bill, which "removed hemp... with extremely low concentrations of THC (no more than 0.3 percent) from the definition of marijuana in the Controlled Substances Act."

With so many CBD products now available, packaging and marketing tactics often distract consumers who may not understand the core principals and standards behind CBD production. Irwin's recently launched EVO3 CBD Oils has demystified a rapidly evolving industry with high-quality, lab-tested products that can be traced to the source.

What Makes EVO3 Oils Different?

To date, the CBD industry lacks cohesive and consistent regulation due to the various governing bodies involved.

"While the Department of Agriculture has the ability to regulate hemp farming, the Food and Drug Administration has authority relating to manufacturing, packaging and health claims," reports the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. "The FDA is considering regulatory frameworks for CBD. That work must come to fruition and a plan implemented as an agency priority."

EVO3 Oils has committed to full transparency of its product line. Consumers can trace the lab testing of every purchase to ensure that what's on the label is actually in the bottle. Much of that responsibility falls upon executive vice president and master cannabinologer Cristina Madruga.

Madruga had studied chemistry with an additional concentration in chemical engineering but was on the career path toward wine-making before discovering how CBD dramatically improved her partner's chronic back injury. Since joining the EVO3 CBD Oils team, she has been instrumental in establishing testing, quality assurance and production protocols. She earned her Master Cannabinologer certification so she could take over production and formulation as well.

Full-Spectrum vs. Broad-Spectrum
All of EVO3 Oils' are derived from U.S.-grown, organically sourced hemp. Every part of the plant is used and has a different purpose, but the two main categories for new consumers to be aware of are full-spectrum and broad-spectrum.

Full-Spectrum – Madruga describes full-spectrum as "the way Mother Nature intended." The CBD oils contain all of the essential nutrients from the source hemp, including trace amounts of THC.
Recommended product: Full-Spectrum extra-strength (3,000 mg) CBD oil (green label)

Broad Spectrum – For those who want to avoid THC, the broad-spectrum product line offers all of the same CBD benefits minus the THC, and is boosted with more than 30 terpenes and other nutrients lost during the purification process to rebuild the natural profile of whole hemp.
Recommended product: Broad-Spectrum extra-strength (3,000 mg) CBD oil (white label)

Both full-spectrum and broad-spectrum are available in natural, mint or orange flavors.

For those with muscle aches and pains, topical CBD products may provide much-needed relief. All topical products are THC-free and come in a variety of strengths:

CBD Roll-On (strength: 300 mg)
CBD Muscle Rub (strength: 600 mg)
CBD Topical Spray (strength: 1,000 mg)

For anyone new to CBD products, EVO3 Oils has created a New User Guide, which answers many questions about how to use and store your products.
