Netflix has announced an August 3 release date for Season 2 of hit gay teen dramedy "Heartstopper," as well as dropping a teaser for the new season in which the show's stars offer their thoughts about the fresh crop of episodes.

"Kit Connor and Joe Locke are set to return on Aug. 3 as friends turned boyfriends Nick and Charlie, with viewers able to find out what happens next in their relationship as the duo and their mates navigate exams, school trips and the all-important prom over the course of eight episodes," Variety reported.

The entertainment outlet quoted from the show's logline: "Nick and Charlie navigate their new relationship; Tara and Darcy face unforeseen challenges and Tao and Elle work out if they can ever be more than just friends."

"With exams on the horizon, a school trip to Paris and a prom to plan, the gang has a lot to juggle as they journey through the next stages of life, love and friendship."

The teaser opens with stars Kit Connor and Joe Locke in a hallway, dressed in their school uniforms. "What do you think is new in Season 2," Connor, who plays Nick, asks Locke, who plays Charlie, "and what can fans expect?"

The teaser launches into a montage of clips that show the series in production, with the cast getting their makeup touched up and doing takes.

"We might expect Imogen to start taking care of herself a bit more, and put herself above boys," Rhea Norwood says of her character, who, in Season 1, pursued Nick.

"There's just so many things that happen with Elle this season that you're not ready for," trans actor Yasmin Finney says of her character, who is also trans. "I would say Elle is different in the sense she's more confident. She surrounds herself with people that elevate her."

Connor, who recently came out as bi like his character, tells the camera that writer Alice Oseman – who also wrote the comic the show is based on – "has got some amazing scripts for us," and called the upcoming season "cool and fresh. Just a different vibe to Season One."

Locke, who is openly gay, confided: "Charlie goes on more of a journey. His story's a bit more mature."

Netflix whetted expectations in advance of the teaser's arrival with an April 22 tweet that marked the first anniversary of the show's premiere on Netflix and promised a "surprise" in the coming days.

The first eight-episode season of "Heartstopper" premiered on Netflix last year, to instant success. The streamer quickly green lit both a second and third season.
