Well, you can count "The Last of Us" star Bella Ramsey among the growing list of celebrities leaving Twitter amid the Elon Musk-induced chaos over its blue check system.
As reported by TeenVogue, in a tweet on April 21, Bella bid adieu to the bird platform by penning a final sweet tweet to their fans/"gay army."
"Twitter it's been fun," wrote Bella. "My account will still be active for now but I will not be on here! Thank you my gay army and all the rest. Love you." They punctuated the tweet with a GIF of themselves, pulled from a scene in "The Last of Us" in which their character Ellie says "goodbye."
Prior to Musk running amok as Twitter CEO, the blue check verification system signaled to followers the a person was who they say they were, "active, notable and authentic." After the feature was removed for everyone, mega celebs like Beyoncé, Kim Kardashian, Doja Cat, Oprah Winfrey, and more, were all left without a symbol to distinguish their accounts from imposter accounts.
Chaos!
Although it is unclear if there was one particular incident that prompted Bella's decision to depart Twitter, we will certainly miss their presences. As they shared, their account will remain active but they will not be present.
Twitter is seeking a monthly fee of $8 to maintain the blue check on an account, a fee many celebs have refused to pay. So Musk has reportedly been paying a few celebrity subscriptions out of his own pocket, such as subscriptions for author Stephen King, LeBron James, and William Shatner.
Would you pay for a blue check?
