"I Kissed a Girl" singer Katy Perry gave a shoutout to her gay fans in an interview where she touted her Las Vegas residency, which wraps up in the fall.

In an interview with Out, Perry recalled that she "came from a very sheltered upbringing where it wasn't okay to be friends with anyone from [the LGBTQ+] community."

"And now that is my community," the popstar added.

Addressing her breakout hit (which, the publication noted, "angered conservative listeners and even some people in the LGBTQ+ community" upon its release), Perry said, "For me in that time, bisexuality kind of got its label of sorts."

Perry went on to explain: "It was like, 'Oh, so that is what this is,' you know? This feeling or this experience or what have you. I was just writing about my own experience."

Now, queer culture and her big LGBTQ+ following are an integral part of her personal and professional life. "That is my show. That is my people. It's my everyday life," the singer confided to the publication. "It's in my house, it's in my work. I wouldn't have survived without the community and couldn't, quite honestly."

"It's amazing how full circle it's come and how much growth has happened since I started," she added.

Perry recently announced a slew of new dates for her Las Vegas residency, titled "Play." The new dates start on May 12 and run through Nov. 4.
