An Ohio news anchor came out on air with an off-the-cuff remark about how she and her girlfriend spent Thanksgiving, but the moment did not go unnoticed by thrilled viewers.
Taylor Bruck is a news anchor for Spectrum News 1 Ohio. People Magazine reported that she and co-anchor Alexa Maslowski were chatting about how they spent the Thanksgiving holiday "when Bruck said the extent of her plans centered around visiting her 'girlfriend' in Cleveland."
That single word took a fraction of a second to say, but, HuffPost noted, it has had "lasting consequences" in the form of rave reviews – and not just from Ohio viewers.
"Messages are pouring in from all around the world, including Ghana, Germany, Australia, London, as well as many states across the U.S.," the anchor revealed to People Magazine, which broke the story.
Bruck had not exactly been in the closet – she was already out on social media – but her casual reference of a girlfriend still had seismic results.
It was to social media that Bruck returned after coming out on-air, posting the moment to TikTok and Instagram. "People are telling me how much this visibility means to them and that they're so proud of me" Bruck said in the wake of sharing the clip on her accounts.
"As of Monday, the video has more than 110,000 views on TikTok and 190,000 likes on Instagram," People Mag noted, "and there have been countless comments that laud her bravery."
