Andrew Scott is booked and busy. After getting rave reviews for "All of Us Strangers," Scott is back on the screen in another captivating role.
As reported by Variety, Scott is set to star as Tom Ripley in the upcoming Netflix psychological thriller series "Ripley." An adaption of Patricia Highsmith's novel "The Talented Mr. Ripley," the film was originally set to hit Showtime but was acquired by Netflix in a sale between the companies.
Directed and written by Steven Zaillian, the story follows Ripley as "a grifter scraping by in early 1960s New York." Then a wealthy man traveling in Italy, with a troubled relationship with his son, enters the picture, and deceit ensues.
Johnny Flynn and Dakota Fanning are set to star in the project along with Scott, who is also a producer on the show. Flynn takes on the role Dickie Greenleaf, the "vagabond son" who becomes subject to Tom's scheming, and Fanning is Marge Sherwood, Dickie's girlfriend, who grows suspicious of Tom.
"You're a very hard man to find. No address. Phone. Office," Tom is told in the teaser.
In the 1999 film version, Ripley was played by Matt Damon and Dickie Greenleaf by Jude Law, with Gwyneth Paltrow in the Marge role. The film was nominated for five Academy Awards, so the upcoming series will have some big shoes to fill.
Additional executive producers on the project include, Zaillian, Garrett Basch, Clayton Townsend, Guymon Casady, Ben Forkner, Sharon Levy and Philipp Keel of Diogenes.
Look for the limited series on Netflix April 4. Until then, let the anticipation began with the teaser below.
