The upcoming queer and quirky "Problemista" by Julio Torres is finally headed to theaters. After the film screened at Outfits LA and was a hit at SXSW in 2023, Torres himself announced in the most cheeky way possible that the feature is on its way to a theater near you this spring.

As reported by Variety, "Problemista" is Torres' directorial debut, and he also stars in the film alongside the Queen of Quirky Tilda Swinton, RZA, Greta Lee, James Scully, Larry Owens, Catalina Saavedra and it is narrated by Isabella Rossellini.

Torres is Alejandro, an imaginative immigrant trying to break into the NYC's design world when he gets latched to an exploitive art guru in Swinton.

The film will hit limited theaters March 1 then have a wide release March 22, and Torres said the film is a reflection of a chapter in his life.

"The movie attempts to portray a chapter in my life as I felt it. And a big part of it was brushing up against bureaucracy and about the heartlessness of bureaucracy," Torres told Variety. "My father, who's a very progressive thinker, was always very quick to point out injustices. In my household, we always questioned rules."

As far as the film's aesthetic influence, which can be scene in its previews, Torres said that he is still figuring it out.

"It's a sensibility thing," said Torres. "I can only say that this is the way that I currently know how to express myself – through metaphor, through these visual flourishes, and I like showing how things feel."
