Watch: Alan Cumming Sends BBC Viewers into a Tizzy with NSFW Term on Morning Cooking Show
READ TIME: 2 MIN.
One of the viewing delights of the new year is watching Alan Cumming host the American version of "The Traitors" on Peacock. On the second season, veteran reality show stars visit Cumming's Scotland castle for a game of deceit and murder (only in play.) At the onset, the game initially had 21 players (a 22nd was added mid-season) of whom Cumming picked three to be the "traitors." Over the ensuing nights, the traitors murder a "faithful" (as they are called.) The "faithfuls" only defense is to identify a "traitor" and eliminate them. There are also cash challenges that can add up to a $250,00 prize to the last "traitor" or "faithful" standing.
Peacock announced this week that the second season has caught on.
One very good reason is Cumming, whose impish style is perfect for the dry, dark humor that informs the show. Plus his outré costumes (based on Tartan plaids) are stylishly hilarious.
But the Scottish-born actor made a headline-making "faux pas" on a British cooking show on a BBC Saturday morning cooking show a few weeks ago. According to the British tabloid The Mirror, Cumming "had viewers in hysterics with his very cheeky innuendo" while cooking on the BBC show "Saturday Kitchen." Speaking to the show's host Matt Tebbutt, Cumming said, "Vodka soda is quite hydrating too, but you know I always one up it with another one." He added: "And everyone always goes, 'Oh you're double fisting Alan'."
Tebbutt corrected him. "I don't think that's the phrase," as he then tried to turn the conversation back to cooking.
Cumming, according to the Daily Mail, also referred to "soggy balls" in his comments.
"Viewers at home reacted to the "chaos" from Alan, as one said: 'I did not have Alan Cumming saying 'double fisting' on my bingo card today,'" writes The Mirror. "Another added: 'Can we have Alan Cumming on every show please? He's so entertaining and risqué. Loving the chaos of today's show.' Someone else said: 'Alan Cumming has talked about double fisting on Saturday Kitchen and it's not even 1 pm.'"
