Lilly Wachowski – one half of the Wachowski sisters, the filmmakers behind the "Matrix" films – is set to go solo as a director with "Trash Mountain," which Variety describes as "a queer comedy-drama starring rising comedian and actor Caleb Hearon."

Variety offered a thumbnail of the storyline, detailing that the movie "follows a young gay man living in Chicago who returns to his hometown in Missouri following the death of his hoarder father."

Lilly Wachowski gave a shoutout to the film's star and co-writer, gay comedian Caleb Hearon, in comments to Collider, saying, "When my pal Caleb Hearon sent me 'Trash Mountain' I leapt at the chance to direct it. So beautiful and sad and funny!"

"Queer representation and stories are vital at this time as we are being shoved further into the margins," Wachowski added. "Our amazing writers, Caleb and Ruby are a shining light in all this dang darkness."

While sister Lana Wachowski went solo in 2021 to revisit the siblings' "Matrix" films with a fourth entry titled "The Matrix: Resurrections," Lilly has not, until now, undertaken the direction of a film by herself.

In addition to the first three "Matrix" films, the Wachowskis caused a stir in LGBTQ+ cinema with "Bound," about two women (played by Jennifer Tilly and Gina Gershon) who become lovers and then hatch a scheme to rob the Mafia. The Wachowskis also helmed the sci-fi adventure "Jupiter Rising" and co-created the fan-favorite TV series "Sense8."
