The Products that 'Clyde's' Cyndii Johnson Can't Perform Without

"Clyde's," the hit Lynn Nottage play that earned a 2022 Tony Nomination for Best Play, is currently burning up The Huntington stage in a co-production with Berkeley Repertory Theatre.

Cyndii Johnson, who has appeared on Broadway in "Trouble in Mind" and Off Broadway in "What to Send Up When It Goes Down," plays Letitia, a formerly incarcerated young mother who works at a truck-stop sandwich shop while attempting to rebuild her life.

"Being a professional actor has been a dream come true. I started going to a performing arts school in the 6th grade, and the acting bug hasn't left me since. Although I love it, being the CEO of your own business, the constant travel, and all that comes with it can be a bit stressful. All of that, plus the toll being an artist can have on your pockets – I try to be very intentional with my purchases. I love supporting fellow artists and local producers of the cities that I travel to work in. Here are my must-have items."

Audition Journal

"As an actor my job is to audition. This notebook, created by sorority sister and fellow actor, NaTonia Monét, keeps me organized with all of my auditions and callbacks so I can keep record and book the job! Amazon.

NUULY

"Closet space is at a premium in NYC! I can't fill my barbie sized closet with opening night dresses that I only wore once because it's been posted on the 'gram. NUULY is a clothing rental service that I use to be sustainable with my wardrobe. I get my opening night dresses, cute rehearsal clothes, and pieces that are appropriate for the climate in which I am traveling to. 6 pieces to rent for only $88?! When I look good, I feel good. Use my link for $10 off your first rental." NUULY.

Infinitea Time to Slumber Essential Oil Blend

"Another passion of mine is herbalism. During the pandemic I took an herbalism course that really inspired and equipped me with the knowledge of how I can work with herbs to support me, especially during a show. It can be hard to wind down after an evening performance. The Time for Slumber essential oil blend from Infinitea is great for putting on my wrists, neck, and temples post show. Infinitea is also owned by a fellow black actress, Camille Upshaw." $10, Infinitea.

The Body Shop Chamomile Sumptuous Cleansing Butter

"Wearing stage makeup six days a week can wreak havoc on a person's skin. I love using the body shops Chamomile Sumptuous Cleansing Butter for taking off my makeup in an easy and gentle manner using the makeup eraser towel. I follow up with Trader Joe's face wash with tea tree oil to cleanse and rosewater to tone." $19, The Body Shop.

The Original Makeup Eraser

$20, Makeup Eraser.

Heritage Store Rosewater

$11,49, Heritage Store.

"I love to cook, just like my character, Tish. When on the road there are a few kitchen items that I ship to ensure I can whip it up and not spend all my money on Uber Eats. My microplane, chef's knife, french press, and air fryer are all non-negotiables."

Brookstone Quzy-Premium Wireless Neck and Shoulder Massager

"Lastly, I have to take care of my body as it is my instrument as an artist. My yoga mat, foam roller, and Brookstone massager keep me agile and knot free." $180, Brookstone.
